When rows upon rows of cycle-rickshaw-wale lie curled up on the passenger seat of their blue rickshaws, head and shoulders swallowed by their dusty gamchhas, at 11 in the late morning...
toh samajh lo, dilli mein raat baarish hui hai.
When white china roses, growing a few feet from the ring road, who've spent February refusing to sit up and take notice of the spring, suddenly sit up straight on their delicate stalks, each petal achingly poised like a butterfly wing waiting to be painted upon...
toh samajh lo, dilli mein raat baarish hui hai.
When your chin turns out, and up, to meet the gulpworthy crisp air...
toh samajh lo, dilli mein raat baarish hui hai.
When there's traffic jammed on both sides of a railways crossing, but no horns are blaring and no faces are frowning....
toh samajh lo, dilli mein raat baarish hui hai.
Dilli mein raat baarish hui hai.

Lovely post!
juss the thoughts of the rains makes me feel all nostalgic sigh!...
are the rains so lovely is delhi...rather is delhi so beautiful in the rains?? *dreamy look*
Too good!!! :)
I'm comin to Delhi for the first time in April (hopefully)... hope to see some (raat only) baarish. :)
oh, lovely :) I remember your post on delhi drizzle and the weather being stilling.... hhmmmm
Made a superb read!
When all the dirt on the road mixes with the rainwater and clings to the bottom of your pants and your shoes,
Tho samajh lo Dilli mein barish hui hain.
Look only at the sky, never below, for the picture then looks like a beautiful painting smeared with cow dung.
Beautiful post, made me smile and smile. Out here we say:
"Jab 2 hours mein local trains cancel ho gayi ho...
Samjho Mumbai mein baarish hui hai"
:-)
Fab blog!!
And i'm nostalgic again...and missing those long drives on those lovely roads :(
You've summed it up best!
:)
Bilkul sahi farmaaya aapne. Ye sab to sirf baarish ke hee aasaar ho sakte hain!
hi,
ur post makes me nostalgic,
very rightly summed up!! brought back the memories of delhi ki baarish
fabulous blog
dum dum diga diga to the loveliness of the post..
except, we in the boondocks regard everything that happens with great trepidation.. you could say:
jab baaki hindustan mein flu chaa gayee hai,
toh samajh lo, dilli mein raat baarish hui hai.
forgot to add the dreaded d-word to ' everything that happens in dilli'..
only goes to show what dilli can do to you (even when you think about it), right? :))
when you spend a whole afternoon sitting in the balcony, drinking chai, and looking at children playing in the rainwashed green...
dilli main din bhar bhi maddham maddham baarish hui.
beautiful post, ji!
:-)
Very nice post. Don't know if you've ever been in Calcutta. Both the weather over the past couple of days and the post are kind of Cal-ish.
Waah, waah,
:):):)
Aur kya kahoon main? :)
Pawan
Beautiful post. It actually inspired me to take some pictures after the rain.
Amit: thank you
Pri: Yes, Delhi... rain... spring... dreamy stuff.
Dev: Hope the rains stay back, until April
Charu: mmm is right.
Pawan, Dreamer, Shashikiran, wild reeds, Diana, Kuffir, Arun, Black Muddy River: you'll give me a swollen head.
Atlantean: the glass is half-empty, I suppose? :P
Vijayeta: Come back, then.
Anand: chai and baarish - my favourite combination
When I was younger, less sinister and a whole lot more gullible; I was a fool. : )
For me the rain felt like gods touch, this was not a feeling plagiarized from a book or a line from a movie I saw, this was something I honestly felt. I cannot remember the exact age when I started to feel this way but I guess it was around the time I briefly existed in my home town buried somewhere within Kerela. I would walk in the rain without an umbrella as my friends watched in bewildered amuse and debated the possibilities of my sanity. I would walk in the rain as it crashed in to everything that surrounds me and yet never would it hurt me. It would play my favorite tunes upon asbestos roofs and on occasion’s tined ones too. I felt loved, I felt touched as I stood in the rain. Years later, now it just feels cold and wet and I wonder what happened to the rain?
Luv
